The next time we're both home, I'll be the first to go. You'll sit on your porch and feel my presence like a ghost. The next time we're both home, I'll be the first to go. You'll realize there's hardly anywhere here you've been without me. This is what makes friends best: a love that travels and bends when there's no straight line to you. The next time we're both home, I'll be the first to go. I don't wanna hear the quiet you leave behind. The next time we're both home, I'll be the first to go. I don't wanna feel the sting of watching you leave me. I wish we could live in the roots like we would make our fairies do. It isn't the same here without you. It isn't the same here without you. It isn't the same here without you. It isn't the same here without you. It isn't the same here without– It isn't the same here! It won't be the same here without you.

There’s nothing to sing and nothing to dance to. There’s nothing to read and no one to write to. There’s books on the shelf, got stacks of CDs, but somehow I don’t know what to do with these. I walk out my door and hang a right. It’s been too long since I’ve been outside. And I still can’t listen to the city but I’m watching it, watching it watch me go by. And I think I look pretty. Will that be enough to pass the time?

I wanna show you my favorite places, but I don't have any. Wanna be surrounded by familiar faces, but I only know about three. I've been pushing myself I swear! But I'm struggling to put myself out there. I've been pushing myself I swear! But it's hard not to call it quits when I get scared. I wanna know you like authors know stories, but I haven’t wrote my own. Wanna be grounded in something more constant, but you just want a moan. I've been pushing myself I swear! But I'm struggling to put myself out there. I've been pushing myself I swear! But it's hard not to call it quits when I get scared.

City Life 03:41
Loneliness is just common sense when you're walking down the street, passing so many people you'll never meet, and you wanna know their stories, you wanna know their worries, but you never will. You never will. City life was my upbringing I can't help but walk by singing: I think I love you, I'm so scared of you, I wanna hug you, please don't stare for too long, too long, but tell me I'm pretty, tell me I'm beautiful, tell me I'm pretty, tell me I'm beautiful. A million people on the street, we don't talk but we all think it: I wanna love you – pick up the pace, buddy – am I one of you? -- stay in your lane or get off the freeway, get off the freeway. But tell me you're coming, tell me you're on your way, tell me you're coming, tell me you're here to stay. A million people on the street we don't talk but we all think it: I have to love you – please get away from me – I have to show you we're not the same but we are in a way, we are in a way. But tell me I'm special, tell me there's no one else, tell me I'm special, tell me I'm the only one. Loneliness is just common sense when you're walking down the street, passing so many people you'll never meet.

Ranger 01:44
I write a song pretty easy these days. I ride the train before 7am. I go to work 5 times a week. I go to bed and I actually get sleep. I dream of living over water. I dream of living over ping tom park. I could make the operator house my tower. But I've got to keep my head out of the clouds, got to keep my eyes trained on the south, but look, the sun is rising behind that vertical lift. I stare into the eyes of strangers as I walk the city like a ranger. I tip my chin up at skyscrapers when I need reminding I'm small, 'cause I need reminding I'm small.

If only I could melt into you, some of your shimmer might rub off on me. You, you change shape. You evaporate. I can relate. You are a gasp outstretched, only by you does the wind reach in. Everywhere else it just sits– you put things in motion, ready get set– I can feel it on my skin, I can feel me taking shape, part of me evaporates just like Lake Michigan. I can feel it on my skin, I can feel me taking shape, part of me evaporates just like Lake Michigan. Someday I’ll melt. Someday I’ll melt into you.

Space Travel 02:22
Carry me away from this place. If it ends us, we'll pretend that we planned it all along. If it takes us lightyears for us to face our fears I'll still gladly shoot for the moon with you. Carry me away from this Earth. If it hurts us, then we'll learn how to cauterize the wound. If it takes us lightyears for us to face our fears I'll still gladly shoot for the moon with you.
